Welcome!

Jim Mitch AKA Prof. Chester Nuhmentz This site was developed to help with teaching chess skills. Hundreds of pages of material can be downloaded for free, while some material is designed for use online -- including quizzes, exercises for forcing checkmate, a move-prediction exercise and an epic story that introduces many ideas about basic chess strategy. The material presumes that the user is familiar with the rules of chess. Players and coaches who have logged in can easily view progress reports.

Parents, coaches, and students have sent much positive feedback about the material (for example, Grandmaster Maurice Ashley sent the kind message "Let me just say your stuff is brilliant!"). The most popular feature so far for 2006 has been the addition of private web sites for chess clubs, with easy-to-edit pages for posting announcements, club calendars, progress ladders, and other pertinent club information.

If you wish to create a bookmark for this site, please use your browser's bookmark option while viewing the home page. (Links to this site should be to http://www.professorchess.com.)

By the way, my pseudonym, Prof. Chester Nuhmentz, is meant to be pronounced "chess tournments"! Please feel free to send a note if you have any questions or suggestions. Enjoy your visit!
